Texas Rat Snake (Pantherophis obsoletus lindheimeri) juvenile
This juvenile Texas Rat Snake is drawn from a photograph by my good friend Bill Lamar. An agile climber throughout its life, this species can even scale brick walls. Juveniles often feed on treefrogs, while adults darken with age and prey on birds, eggs, and small mammals.
